Summer Essentials
Summer is here, as is Beltane! Beltane is the midway point between the Spring Equinox and the Summer Solstice. This is the time of year when the sun is getting stronger, flowers are blooming, and insects are emerging from their winter slumber.
If you suffer from seasonal allergies, make sure you have a bottle of Eucalyptus or Peppermint in your essential oils collection. Either one is wonderful for clearing congestion and supporting that itchy, stuffy allergy feeling. Add either to your diffuser with a couple drops of Lemon and Lavender for seasonal support. You can also just take a big whiff right from the bottle!
Have ants in your house? Then it's time to make an ANT SPRAY! Fill a 2oz amber glass spray bottle with distilled water and add 8-10 drops of Peppermint. Give it a good shake before each use! Wherever you see ants in your house, spray the area, and the ants will disappear! (They hate the smell of Peppermint!) CAUTION: if you have cats, please do not use peppermint in your house. Cats are unable to process the enzymes in this oil, and it may lead to seizures and/or death.
This is also the time of year when pesky mosquitos begin to appear - and a natural bug spray is a great alternative to what you can buy at Target, etc.
BUG SPRAY:
In a 2 oz. amber glass spray bottle add the following essential oils:
3 drops Peppermint
8 drops Citronella
8 drops Tea Tree
3 drops Lemongrass
3 drops Eucalyptus
Fill the remainder with distilled water. Make sure to give it a good shake before each use, as oils & water won't combine. I find it best to spray on the back of my neck, on my feet, and on my clothes when going outside.
Lastly…sunnier weather means more sun exposure. If you've had TOO MUCH sun, and need some relief, here is my favorite recipes for AFTER SUN SPRAY:
Again, in a 2 oz. amber glass spray bottle fill the bottle
Half way with liquid aloe (can be purchased through Mountain Rose Herbs or on Amazon)
1 / 4 with Lavender hydrosol
1 / 4 with Helicrysum hydrosol
(Hydrosols can be purchased through Mountain Rose Herbs - these are my favorites!)
Keep the bottle in the fridge, and apply as needed after being in the sun. Make sure to give the bottle a good shake before using it!
